Nisar Zaidi, MD

Dr. Nisar Zaidi, MD FACS has been practicing as a board certified general and endocrine surgeon at Essentia Health since 2016. 

Dr. Zaidi earned his bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of Connecticut.  Subsequently, he completed his general surgery residency training through Columbia University at Stamford Hospital.  He went on to complete fellowship training in endocrine surgery at the University of Sydney, Australia.  Dr. Zaidi spent additional time in training at the Cleveland Clinic focusing on applying robotics in endocrine surgery. 

As an endocrine surgeon, Dr. Zaidi focuses on the surgical treatment of diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands.  In this capacity, he has spoken at meetings at both the national and international stage.  He is one of a few surgeons nationally to hold a Focused Practice Designation in Adult Complex Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery from the American Board of Surgery.  This national certification recognizes high-volume surgeons knowledgeable in the treatment of patients with both straightforward and complicated disorders of the thyroid and parathyroid glands.   

As a general surgeon, Dr. Zaidi provides care for patients with a variety of surgical needs focusing on simple and complex hernias of the abdominal and groin regions.  He is an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota General Surgery Residency – Rural Track Program, helping to train the next generation of surgeons.   

In his time outside of patient care, Dr. Zaidi enjoys exploring world culture and cuisine with his family; improving his tennis game; and rallying a team for pub trivia.
