John Wight, MD, is a dedicated cardiologist at Essentia Health, where he is proud to be part of a team of talented and collaborative professionals committed to delivering evidence-based, high-quality care. Growing up in the Twin Cities, Dr. Wight has always felt a deep connection to Minnesota’s north shore, a place his family has cherished for generations. His great-grandparents first visited the area, and today, his parents spend part of the year near Lutsen, MN. The natural beauty and strong sense of community make the north shore one of his favorite places in the world.
Dr. Wight was drawn to cardiology due to its ties to math and physics, subjects he studied in college. He appreciates the field’s dynamic nature, including its focus on imaging, continuity of care, and ongoing advancements. Before pursuing medicine, he worked as a high school math teacher in Northeast Minneapolis, an experience that fueled his passion for serving underserved populations. This commitment continued during his medical training at a large county hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Outside of work, Dr. Wight enjoys staying active with hobbies like pickleball, hiking, biking, traveling, and curling. He is dedicated to providing the best possible care for his patients and values collaboration with colleagues and mentors to ensure the highest standards of treatment.
