Ryan Backer, APRN,CNP

Ryan Backer, APRN-PMHNP-BC, is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner in Fargo, North Dakota. He sees patients ages six and older.

His areas of focus include trauma, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, treatment-resistant depression, and autism spectrum disorders. He also has experience working with Veterans and has done competency assessments for people facing trial.

Ryan was born and raised in Fargo and has worked in inpatient psychiatry at two hospitals in Fargo since 2013. He chose psychiatry because he saw how mental health stigma can keep people from getting help. He works to create a space where patients feel heard and understood. He also values team-based care and uses the latest research to support treatment.

Ryan is board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He completed his education at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. His background includes work as a psychiatric technician and years as a charge nurse in psychiatry. He has also trained with a focus on rural mental health care.

He lives in South Fargo with his girlfriend and their golden doodle, Honey.
