Dr. Bishu is an interventional cardiologist at Essentia Health heart and vascular center. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree with distinction from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia in 2003. He completed his internal medicine residency training at the University of Minnesota being elected by faculty and staff as the best overall resident diagnostician and teacher from his class. He went on to complete his fellowship training in cardiovascular diseases with a focus on the complex invasive hemodynamics assessment of cardiovascular diseases at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He completed an NIH supported Masters degree in clinical and translational research during his training at the Mayo Clinic. He was recognized with an outstanding achievement award in research upon completion of his Fellowship in Cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Bishu completed his subspecialty fellowship in coronary, peripheral and structural interventions at the University of Colorado and joined Essentia Health in 2016 as a structural interventional cardiologist. Since his arrival at Essentia health, he has helped start a program for minimally invasive transcatheter mitral valve repair for patients with heart failure due to a leaky mitral valve. He also helped start the minimally invasive transcatheter left atrial appendage occlusion program for patients with atrial fibrillation who can not tolerate oral anticoagulation. Dr. Bishu’s focus area is the hemodynamic evaluation and percutaneous treatment of structural heart diseases
