Kia Alton, SLP is a Speech Language Pathologist who joined Essentia Health in 2012. Kia treats adult and geriatric patients and also performs in home treatments for the Home Health team. She earned her Masters of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Kia has certifications in Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT), SPEAK OUT! Voice Program, McNeil Dysphagia Therapy Protocol (MDTP), Vital Stim, MFR specific to swallowing and voice, Beckman Oral Motor Treatment, and Gender Affirming Voice Training. She also has experience with use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication, and enjoys attending educational courses to further develop her clinical skills within each area she treats. She treats adults with a variety of speech and communication disorders, cognitive deficits, vocal impairments, and swallowing difficulty due to various etiologies. Kia is also a member of the Essentia Health Ethics Committee.
Kia's free time is spent with her husband and three children. They enjoy participating in community activities, being outdoors, and traveling.
