This BLS Course meets the requirement for initial and renewal BLS certification. The course is designed to teach healthcare professionals how to save the life of a victim in cardiac arrest by performing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) individually and as part of a team. During the course, BLS students will learn about, describe, and apply the steps of the BLS Chain of Survival. Students will demonstrate rescue techniques for adults, children, and infants and the use of an AED.
OBJECTIVES
After successful completion of the American Heart Association (AHA) 2025 Guidelines BLS course, the learner should be able to:
- Describe the importance of high-quality CPR and its impact on survival
- Recognize unresponsiveness and when it is appropriate to start CPR
- Perform high-quality CPR for an adult, a child, and an infant
- Perform chest compressions using correct hand placement at the correct rate and depth with adequate chest recoil
- Demonstrate effective breaths or ventilation
- Demonstrate how to use an AED
- Describe how to relieve foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO) for an adult, a child, and an infant
- Describe how to help someone in an opioid-associated emergency
- Recognize signs of a heart attack
- Describe how to help someone having a heart attack
You must complete the HeartCode BLS elearning prior to attending this course. The link to purchase the elearning is
shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-BLS. A printed copy of the elearning completion certificate is required to attend the BLS skills session.
Minimum of 4 students with a maximum of 6.
