Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center welcomes orthopedic surgery specialist Ian Shields

Ian Shields, a certified physician assistant specializing in orthopedic surgery, is thrilled to join Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center.

"As a native Minnesotan, I’m excited to come home after living around the midwest for the last few years," said Shields. “I’m looking forward to delivering high-quality care to patients in the Brainerd Lakes area.”

Shields received his education from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

“I started my health care career as an athletic trainer before pursuing training as a physician assistant,” said Shields. “I look forward to bringing my expertise and knowledge to Essentia and using it to guide patients through their health care journey.”
