Essentia Health-South University Clinic welcomes oncologist and hematologist Dr. Louis Geeraerts

The Essentia Health-South University Clinic is excited to welcome oncologist and hematologist Dr. Louis Geeraerts.

"Being able to practice my field of medicine, hematology and oncology, in a multi-specialty group is ideal," explained Dr. Geeraerts of his decision to join Essentia Health. "It gives me a chance to be entirely dedicated to my patients without having to worry about anything else."

Dr. Geeraerts earned his medical degree from Free University of Brussels in Belgium. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Nassau Hospital in Mineola, New York, and fellowships in hematology and oncology at Columbia University and Winthrop-University Hospital in New York. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, hematology and oncology.

"While in general practice in Belgium and during my residency, I realized how complex and difficult it is to treat cancer patients," said Dr. Geeraerts. "Hence my great interest in oncology, which I felt to be a very challenging field. I have never been disappointed by my choice. While difficult, it is also a very rewarding field."
