Essentia Health-Sandstone

Essentia Health-Sandstone has been redesignated as an acute stroke-ready hospital by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).

The redesignation means we have stringent protocols, collaborations, testing, education and partnerships in place to help achieve the best possible outcome for patients who suffer this potentially deadly health event.

“This redesignation underscores the unwavering commitment and dedication demonstrated by our staff and physicians at Essentia Health-Sandstone,” said Sam Barney, administrator for Essentia Health-Sandstone. “We are equipped to provide 24/7 care for stroke patients, prioritizing high-quality treatment for this critical condition. We extend sincere gratitude to our team for their dedication to the community, and we take immense pride in achieving this milestone.”

This coordinated statewide system of care ensures all hospitals are equipped and ready to provide the best care possible for patients. The Minnesota Stroke System was officially launched in April 2014. MDH partners with the American Heart Association, hospitals, EMS agencies and many others to implement and oversee this process.

This designation is good for three years.
