Buying groceries on a fixed income is becoming more difficult, said Cheryl Olson, but access to fresh vegetables has gotten a little easier.

For the past five years, she has received a boost in her farmers market vegetable purchases, thanks to the Essentia Health-supported programs that subsidize produce purchases. Olson has chosen potatoes, onions, kale, berries — “everything but zucchini,” she said.
