This is a fast-paced Childbirth Education class based on Lamaze Childbirth Education principles. It is designed for parents who are not able to attend the weeknight sessions.

It is ideal to take this class when you are between 28 and 32 weeks pregnant.

This class will cover:

Pregnancy warning signs
Signs and stages of labor
Hospital admission and routines
Pain relief choices
Vaginal and cesarean births
Comfort strategies for during labor
Welcoming your newborn – characteristics and care
Postpartum care – life after baby
Tips for and the role of your support person

This is a Friday evening and Saturday day option for childbirth education. Childbirth class is designed to help prepare you for the delivery of your baby. It is ideal to start taking this class when you are 28 to 32 weeks pregnant, but you may take it at any point in your pregnancy.

Registration reserves space for mother and her partner.

Topics covered include:

Process of giving birth
Positioning and relaxation techniques for labor
Role of support person during labor
Discussion of various choices for mother during birth
Interventions (Induction, pain medication options, Cesarean birth)
Adjusting to parenthood
Care of newborn
Birthing Center Tour

This class will be held in-person, at Essentia Health Detroit Lakes Hospital, and remote via teams. This is a two part class, being held Friday evening from 6:30-9:00 and Saturday 9:00-3:00. You will get an email one week prior to the first day of your class with instructions for both options.
