If you or a loved one have a condition that requires surgery, trust the knowledgeable and skilled general surgeons at Essentia Health. We offer a wide variety of surgical specialties ranging from general and orthopedic surgery to heart and neurosurgery.
Our surgeons perform common and complex surgical procedures and use minimally invasive techniques whenever they can. They will care for you before, during and after your procedure to ensure you have the best possible outcome.
In many cases, you’ll return home the day of surgery. Your procedure may even take place in an Essentia outpatient surgery center. There, you’ll save time and money while experiencing the same quality of care you’d expect at a hospital.
Whenever possible, your Essentia surgeon will take a less-invasive approach that uses only small incisions. You’ll recover faster with less pain and scarring.
Depending on your procedure, your surgeon may use the aid of the da Vinci Xi® surgical robot. This technology moves more precisely and steadily than human hands. It is sometimes used for abdominal, colorectal, gynecologic, and urologic treatments. You’ll find robotic surgical systems in Duluth and Brainerd, Minnesota and Fargo, North Dakota.
Before surgery, you’ll meet with an anesthesiologist or certified registered nurse anesthetist. Rely on your anesthesiology team for safe, effective, pain control and sedation during your surgery or medical procedure.
If you stay in the hospital after surgery, you may receive care from a hospitalist—a doctor who cares for hospitalized patients.
You most likely won’t need intensive care following surgery. But, take comfort in knowing you’ll receive 24/7 monitoring if you stay in the surgical intensive care unit at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota, or Essentia Health-Fargo hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
After some procedures, rehabilitation helps you regain strength or better use the part of your body the surgeon treated. We’ll refer you to the best type of rehabilitation for you.
You’ll need a referral from your primary care provider or a specialist for this service.
