If you're in the Duluth, Minnesota area, learn what to expect when you're in labor and need to head to the Birthplace at St. Mary's.
Come when you think you are in labor or if you think or know your water has broken (ruptured membranes). If you're unsure, you can always call:
Remember to have someone drive you to St. Mary's. DO NOT drive yourself while in labor.
Main Lobby Entrance
Enter on 3rd Street. This entrance is open 6:30 am - 8:30 pm daily. Weekend and holiday schedules may vary. This is a covered ramp.
4th Street Entance
This entrance is open 6:30 am - 8:30 pm daily. Weekend and holiday schedules may vary. This is a covered ramp.
Emergency Room Entrance
The emergency room entrance is located between 3rd and 4th Street on 4th Avenue East. When you drive up the garage door automatically opens. Us this entrance if:
If you are comfortable and being dropped off, come in through the 3rd Street entrance (main lobby) of the hospital. You will be directed to the Birthplace.
If you park and use the connecting skywalks, you can find the Birthplace on the 5th floor of the hospital.
If you're not comfortable or arrive between 8:30 pm and 6:30 am, use the emergency room entrance. Emergency room staff will take you to the Birthplace while your labor coach parks the car.
When you arrived at the hospital you might go first to the Birthplace Triage area. There, nurses will watch you closely to decide if you are ready to be admitted.
Ramps
There are two ramps with public parking. Note that both ramps below have an automated gate with no attendants on duty, and only accept Debit/Credit. No cash is accepted.
Skywalks from both ramps are locked from 8:30 pm - 6:30 am. Use the emergency room entrances during those hours.
Meters
Most of the meters near the hospital are 2-hour meters. They're in effect from 8 am - 5:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. There is no charge on Sundays and holidays.
