Even with smaller gatherings anticipated this year, these foods will be bought or ordered more than ever this year.

Essentia Health St. Mary’s-Detroit Lakes welcomed its New Year’s baby on January 2, 2021 at 5:20 p.m. Mika Mistic made her entrance into the world weighing 6 pounds, 14.1 ounces and was 19 and one-half inches long and a bit earlier than expected. Mika’s due date was January 10. Proud parents are Moon and Josh Mistic of Pelican Rapids. Mika joins siblings Aidyn, Saiya and Ryland at home.
It didn’t take long for Essentia Health-Virginia to welcome its first baby of 2021. Avery Quinn Miller was born at 5:31 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 1. The baby girl weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces and measured 19 inches long. Her mom is Brianna Miller of Hibbing. And while Avery was the first born in 2021, Essentia Health-Virginia welcomed 234 babies in 2020. Of those, the most popular names were Jackson/Jaxon/Jaxen (used six times) for boys and Amelia, Ella and Iris (used three times apiece) for girls.
Essentia Health welcomed the first baby born in Fargo in 2021 at 8:20 a.m. on January 1, 2021. Yair Patricio Castillo entered the world with a full head of dark hair, weighing eight pounds two ounces and was 21 ½ inches long. Yair’s proud parents are Juanita Reyes and Pascual Castillo Jr. of Ada, Minnesota. He joins siblings Guillermo, 8, and Jovanko, 6, at home. Guillermo and Jovanko can’t wait to welcome Yair home in a couple of days and have been using FaceTime to meet their new brother.
In an effort to improve health and wellness in the communities we serve, Essentia Health is waiving its fitness center registration fees for the month of January. One-time registration fees are being waived at the Center for Personal Fitness, located at the Miller Hill Health Plaza; Esko Fitness Center; and Tiger Fitness Center in Maple. These fees are $50 at the Center for Personal Fitness in Duluth and $15 for the fitness centers in Esko and Maple.
Essentia Health-Fosston received its initial shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, December 21 and shortly thereafter, the first front line health care workers began receiving the vaccine. Among the first to be vaccinated were Grant Coauette, physician assistant, Dr. Wes Ofstedal, Jason Steinbrenner, registration and Mike Manecke, facilities manager. Nursing home residents and assisted living tenants were also able to be vaccinated. Mary Blevins was the first nursing home resident vaccinated.

Essentia Health has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Magnetic resonance imaging of the breast offers valuable information about many breast conditions that may not be obtained by other imaging modalities, such as mammography or ultrasound.
