Meet the residency director and coordinator of the Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center Pharmacy Practice Residency Program and get to know our current residents.

Email Eric Gangl.
Eric Gangl received his Doctor of Pharmacy (2002) from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. After graduation, he practiced as a clinical pharmacist for 3 years at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, and became their clinical coordinator in 2004. In 2005 he moved to Brainerd, Minnesota, where he has continued practicing at Essentia Health St. Joseph's Medical Center as a clinical pharmacist. He was in that role for 10 years before becoming Clinical Lead in 2015 and Clinical Manager/Residency Program Director in 2018.
His primary practice is in intensive care, cardiology, and emergency medicine. He serves as preceptor for the residents in critical care.
Eric grew up in Nashwauk, Minnesota. In his free time he enjoys hockey, golfing, fishing, and coaching/watching his kid's sports activities.

Email LeeAnna Pederson.
LeeAnna Pederson received her Doctor of Pharmacy (2015) from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. After graduation, she completed her PGY-1 acute care residency at Essentia Health St. Joseph's Medical Center and continued working as a clinical pharmacist, establishing an emergency medicine pharmacist position. She then became the residency program coordinator in 2018.
Her primary practice is in emergency medicine, intensive care, and general medicine. She serves as preceptor for the residents in orientation and behavioral medicine.
LeeAnna grew up in Plymouth, Minnesota. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, cross country skiing, reading, and spending time with friends, family, and her two dogs.

Email Sarah Patton.
Sarah Patton is originally from Cohasset, Minnesota and graduated with her PharmD from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2019. Her professional interests include emergency medicine, cardiology, precepting students, rural healthcare, and pharmacy management. She was drawn to the residency program at St. Joseph’s because of the variety of elective opportunities, the ability to work on a team with other healthcare professionals, and the collaborative atmosphere of the pharmacy.In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with family, exploring the outdoors with her dog, watching superhero movies, and traveling with friends. Her favorite things to do in the Brainerd area include thrift shopping, frequenting local coffee shops, and enjoying the outdoors.

Nou Cheng Yang is originally from Brooklyn Park, MN, and graduated with his PharmD from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2019. His professional interests include critical care, emergency medicine, and informatics. What he values most about the residency program are the diverse elective experiences offered, the interdisciplinary approach to patient-centered care, the opportunity to expand his knowledge with a variety of preceptors, and the ability to develop his own pharmacy practice in autonomy.
In his spare time, Nou Cheng enjoys spending time with family and friends, lifting weights, trying out new breweries, and rooting for the Minnesota Vikings. His favorite things to do in the Brainerd area include exploring the local lakes and trails, trying out new lakeside restaurants, and enjoying outdoor activities the city offers such as lake cruises, ziplining, etc.
