Eric Gangl, PharmD

Eric Gangl received his Doctor of Pharmacy (2002) from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. After graduation, he practiced as a clinical pharmacist for 3 years at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, and became their clinical coordinator in 2004. In 2005 he moved to Brainerd, Minnesota, where he has continued practicing at Essentia Health St. Joseph's Medical Center as a clinical pharmacist. He was in that role for 10 years before becoming Clinical Lead in 2015 and Clinical Manager/Residency Program Director in 2018.

His primary practice is in intensive care, cardiology, and emergency medicine. He serves as preceptor for the residents in critical care.

Eric grew up in Nashwauk, Minnesota. In his free time he enjoys hockey, golfing, fishing, and coaching/watching his kid's sports activities.

John Grygelko received his Doctor of Pharmacy (2013) from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. After graduation, he completed his PGY-1 Acute Care Residency at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. Following his residency, he worked at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center for several years. During this time, he obtained his BCPS and advanced the pharmacy profession through engagement in the local MSHP chapter and by precepting pharmacy students. He then moved to the Brainerd in 2017, and became the residency program coordinator in 2019.

His primary practice is in intensive care and general medicine. He serves as preceptor for the residents in the orientation and general medicine rotations. His interest in individualized patient care drew him to obtain a pharmacogenomics certificate through ASHP in 2019.

John grew up in Greenfield, Minnesota. In his free time, he enjoys reading insightful books, exercising and enjoying the outdoors. He cherishes spending time with his wife Jen, their wonderful daughter Amara, and their yellow lab (Rosie).

Melissa Perkins

Melissa Perkins, PharmD

Pharmacist Resident, St. Joseph's Medical Center

Melissa is originally from Bemidji, MN and graduated from North Dakota State University with her PharmD in 2021. Her professional interests include psychiatric pharmacy and ambulatory care. What she loves the most about the St. Joseph’s residency program is working in a rural community with advanced pharmacy opportunities as well as the friendly staff and their passion to teach. Wearing purple scrubs is also a bonus!

In her spare time, Melissa enjoys crafting, playing Lego video games, golfing, taking her cat Freya on walks/bike rides, and having grill outs with friends/family. Things she enjoys about Brainerd is biking on the Paul Bunyan Trail, having bon fires on the warm summer nights, and having places to shop and eat out (Best Buy, Costco, Morey’s, Joann Fabrics, Chipotle, boardgame/comic stores etc.)

Kathryn Sheetz

Kathryn (Katie) Sheetz is originally from Grand Rapids, Minnesota and received her Doctor of Pharmacy (2021) with Leadership Emphasis from the University of Minnesota – Duluth. Her professional interests include critical care and infectious disease, among others, while incorporating leadership and teaching aspects throughout her practice. Katie was initially drawn to this residency program due to the variety of clinical rotations available and the strength of the pharmacy team, and her interest further increased during her time as a fourth-year pharmacy student on rotations at SJMC.

In her spare time, you can find Katie on the golf course, checking out local shops and establishments, as well as cooking and collecting cookbooks. Her favorite things to do in the Brainerd Lakes Area include golfing, spending time outdoors, and water activities on the many surrounding lakes.
