Written Exposure Therapy: Expanding the Use of an Evidence-Based Treatment for PTSD
Objective
This project is expanding the use of Written Exposure Therapy (or WET), a treatment intended to improve mental health for patients with posttraumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. In WET, patients write about the thoughts and feelings they had at the time of their trauma. The writing occurs during five sessions with a trained mental health therapist, who checks in with the patient about challenges in completing the writing. In addition to providing WET as a treatment option for patients with PTSD, this project is recruiting eligible adult (age 18 years old and over) Essentia Health patients in WET to also take part in a series of study surveys (4 surveys over 1 year) after completing WET treatment. If you are interested in being part of the study or finding an Essentia Health behavioral health provider that offers WET, please contact Claudia Ramjattan at [email protected].
The dual lead Principal Investigators on this project are Vanessa Simiola, PsyD, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii, and Joan Cook, PhD, Yale University. The Essentia Health site Principal Investigator is Melissa Harry, PhD.
