ICU Case Study

Funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center Foundation, this study seeks to understand the nature of team-based care and patient and family involvement in ICU settings. Lead by Scott Reeves at the University of California, San Francisco, this study aims to: 1) explore the team-based culture, through the use of ethnographic methods, of the Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center ICU as part of a multi-site project including 7 other ICUs in Canada and the US, 2) identify an empirically based diagnostic tool that can provide an indication of whether optimal collaborative team-based care is being delivered, and 3) develop a toolkit of ICU interventions that focus on strengthening team-based care and patient involvement in care delivery. Cathy McCarty and Pat Conway are Co-Investigators on this study.
