Late vs. Early-Stage Diagnosis of Lip and Oral Cavity Cancer


Funded by the Essentia Health Duluth Clinic Foundation, the purpose of this study is to investigate factors associated with early-stage versus late-stage diagnosis of oral and lip cancers in an effort to better identify oral cancers earlier and improve survival among Essentia Health patients. The aims of this study are to

  1. describe patients with oral and lip cancers with respect to stage, age at diagnosis, tobacco and alcohol use, and comorbidities, and
  2. determine factors that are significantly associated with early-stage diagnosis.
