The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of the SMMC Trauma Program's 2008 venous thromboembolism (VTE) protocol on outcomes for patients who sustain a TBI and who are also on an anticoagulation medication. This study is in the process of being expanded to include a comparison of patients with brain hemorrhage on initial CT scan following head injury who were admitted to EH-St. Mary’s before the TICH protocol was implemented (including patients transferred from outside hospitals) and those patients admitted directly to EH-St. Mary’s after the TICH protocol was implemented. The research team for this study consists of Dr. Steven Eyer, Dr. Jing Li Huang, Cathy McCarty, Pat Conway and Theo Woehrle.
