OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course the participant will be able to:
- Demonstrate management of pediatric resuscitation
- Identify priorities and sequence of resuscitation of the critically ill pediatric patient
- Demonstrate proficiency in each of the individual team roles during the Mega Code
- Evaluate age-specific differences between infant and child
- List and prioritize needs of the trauma patient
- Identify medications used for specific cardiac rhythms
- List types of oxygen delivery systems
- Discuss issues in coping with the death of an infant or child
- Identify priorities in management of a child having a seizure
The AHA’s PALS Course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. The course teaches the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. This is a 2-day course for those seeking initial certification and for those whose certification has lapsed. Students must attend two consecutive days.
