  • Essentia Health waives fitness center registration fees for January 12/30/2020

    In an effort to improve health and wellness in the communities we serve, Essentia Health is waiving its fitness center registration fees for the month of January. One-time registration fees are being waived at the Center for Personal Fitness, located at the Miller Hill Health Plaza; Esko Fitness Center; and Tiger Fitness Center in Maple. These fees are $50 at the Center for Personal Fitness in Duluth and $15 for the fitness centers in Esko and Maple.

  • Essentia Health-Fosston administers first COVID-19 vaccine 12/28/2020

    Essentia Health-Fosston received its initial shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, December 21 and shortly thereafter, the first front line health care workers began receiving the vaccine. Among the first to be vaccinated were Grant Coauette, physician assistant, Dr. Wes Ofstedal, Jason Steinbrenner, registration and Mike Manecke, facilities manager. Nursing home residents and assisted living tenants were also able to be vaccinated. Mary Blevins was the first nursing home resident vaccinated.

Essentia Health has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

  • Essentia Health St. Mary’s-Detroit Lakes earns ACR accreditation 12/23/2020

    Essentia Health has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Magnetic resonance imaging of the breast offers valuable information about many breast conditions that may not be obtained by other imaging modalities, such as mammography or ultrasound.

  • Essentia Health-Ada administers first COVID-19 vaccine 12/23/2020

    Essentia Health-Ada received its initial shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, December 21 and shortly thereafter, the first front line health care workers began receiving the vaccine. Among the first to be vaccinated were Dave Halls, RN, Dr. Sandra Martsching, emergency medicine, and JB Bennefeld, maintenance engineer.

  • Essentia Health administers first COVID-19 vaccines in Brainerd Lakes area 12/21/2020

    Nine long months into the COVID-19 pandemic, Essentia Health was thrilled to take the first step toward herd immunity and ending this public health crisis on Monday, December 21, 2020. It’s expected that by the end of the first day, over 110 front-line workers, those directly involved in caring for COVID-positive patients, will be vaccinated against a virus that has claimed the lives of more than 300,000 Americans. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which received emergency-use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration on Dec. 10, requires two doses 21 days apart to be fully effective.

  • Essentia Health administers first COVID-19 vaccine 12/16/2020

    Essentia Health-Fargo received its initial shipment of 775 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine today. Shortly thereafter, the first front line health care workers began receiving the vaccine. Vaccinations will be given in a tiered approach, beginning with those health care workers who provide direct patient care for COVID patients.

  • Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center certified primary stroke center 12/16/2020

    Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center has received primary stroke center re-certification from DNV GL-Healthcare, a world leading certification body. St. Joseph’s is one of three hospitals within Essentia Health to receive certification, and the only primary stroke center in central Minnesota. Originally certified in 2017, the re-certification is valid through 2023. Certification and re-certification are based on standards set forth by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association and affirms that the medical center addresses the full spectrum of stroke care – diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education – and establishes clear metrics to evaluate outcomes.

  • Essentia Health’s Dr. Jane Rudd named “Notable Hero in Health Care” 12/16/2020

    Essentia Health’s Dr. Jane Rudd has been named a Notable Hero in Health Care in a new series from the publication Twin Cities Business. A note about the series says that the selected Heroes in Health Care “are doctors, nurses, directors, CEOs, diversity officers, and medical advisors, among others. They represent large hospital systems, private practices, insurance and pharmacy care companies, and more. They serve on the front lines and behind the scenes, fighting COVID-19 and working to keep Minnesotans as healthy as possible.”
