Aiming to more effectively connect with and treat patients who have high risk of cardiovascular disease, Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center and Essentia Health-Fargo is excited to launch a cardiometabolic clinic.
Amid increasing prevalence of cardiovascular disease, Type 2 Diabetes, obesity and high cholesterol, cardiometabolic clinics have emerged as an effective treatment strategy. Specialists collaborate and provide comprehensive, preventive care to improve patient outcomes. They work with each patient to create a tailored treatment plan that focuses on maintaining a healthier lifestyle and improving risk factors to prevent heart and vascular disease.
Cardiologists Dr. Natalia De Albuquerque Rocha and Dr. Catherine Benziger will oversee the clinic at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
“We are excited to launch this clinic and join as a charter member of the Cardiometabolic Alliance,” said Dr. Benziger. “Working with nationally recognized experts in the Alliance allows us to use Cardiometabolic Center Alliance protocols to deliver the best, evidence-based care to a wider population of patients. This highly successful program will help us improve our quality of care and support patients on their journey to improved cardiovascular health.”
Cardiologist Dr. Lola Oluleye will oversee the clinic at Essentia Health-Fargo.
“Reducing modifiable risk factors plays a vital role in the management of cardiovascular diseases and leads to increased life expectancy,” said Dr. Lola Oluleye, a cardiologist at Essentia Health-Fargo. “This can be achieved with lifestyle changes and medications that have been shown to have significant cardiovascular benefits, and these components are part of any tailored treatment plan at our cardiometabolic clinic.”
About 40% of Essentia’s adult patients with diabetes have cardiovascular and other risk factors. The clinic will strive to help these patients along with those who are discharged from hospitals after cardiovascular events or have a history of heart failure and/or other risk factors.
Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent the onset and progression of cardiovascular disease.
Services at the cardiometabolic clinic include doctor and specialist consultation; lab testing; nutrition counseling; 2D echocardiography; electrocardiogram; stress test; and CT coronary scan.
