Published on December 14, 2021
Essentia Health is excited to “take over” Bentleyville for a night on Thursday, Dec. 16. In addition to staff from Essentia filling volunteer shifts, we hope to seriously up the ante for food donations.
Here’s the challenge: Duluth’s popular holiday-lights display typically collects about 300 pounds in food donations each night. Thursday, though, Essentia is hoping to double that number and bring in 600 pounds of nonperishable food items. Food collected at Bentleyville goes to the Duluth Salvation Army and is distributed to families in need in Duluth, Hibbing, International Falls, Cloquet, Virginia, Grand Rapids and Superior.
If the 600-pound goal is reached, Essentia will happily add a $5,000 donation to Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank in Duluth.
This aligns with our years-long commitment to enhance food access across our service area. Since 1998, Essentia has contributed nearly $2 million toward food-access efforts, supporting about 80 organizations that are helping our neighbors daily.
“We understand how important access to healthy food is for families, and we’re thrilled to partner with Bentleyville to support the Salvation Army’s food-distribution program,” said Tonya Loken, community relations manager at Essentia. “Bentleyville is such a special place to come together with our community and our colleagues to celebrate the holiday season while supporting our local food shelf.”
Bentleyville is open from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday.
