Essentia Health-Moose Lake hosting diabetes prevention program

On Wednesday, Oct. 27, Essentia Health-Moose Lake will host an informational session about an upcoming free diabetes prevention program.

Anyone with prediabetes or risk factors for developing diabetes is encouraged to attend. Risk factors include people who are overweight; age 45 or older; have a family history of Type 2 diabetes; aren’t physically active (fewer than three times per week); were diagnosed with gestational diabetes during pregnancy; or gave birth to a baby weighing more than nine pounds.

The yearlong program starts at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10. For the first six months, meetings will occur 2-4 times per month, then 1-2 times monthly for the duration. Each session will be held virtually until it’s safe to once again meet in person.

It’s best to attend the Oct. 27 informational session, which starts at 6 p.m., but you can register for the program by emailing Amanda Paull at or Brooke Bond at, or by calling (218) 485-5653.

Register for Oct. 27 at this Zoom link. The meeting ID is 3938019197 and the passcode, if prompted, is 803558. The phone number to call in directly is (312) 626-6799.

The diabetes prevention program will help you manage your diabetes by helping you care for yourself in the following ways: eating healthy; being active; checking your blood sugar; taking medicines; solving problems; coping in a healthy way; and reducing risks. The program has proven to help people lower their blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol.
