Essentia Health to require masks full-time at Center for Personal Fitness

Effective Saturday, Aug. 8, Essentia Health’s Center for Personal Fitness at the Miller Hill Health Plaza will require masks at all times among members and staff.

COVID-19 is spread via droplets, which are especially prevalent during vigorous exercise and hard breathing. As a result, asking our members and staff to wear a mask will decrease the risk of transmission within the fitness center. This mandate applies to all common areas, locker rooms, and fitness equipment. It also will be in effect at the adjacent Therapy and Performance Center, including to and from the therapy pool and on the pool deck; masks can be removed once in the water for classes and other rehabilitation activities.

The wellbeing of our members and staff is our highest priority, and masks have been proven to slow the spread of this virus. Other precautions at the Center for Personal Fitness include limiting the number of people exercising and increasing equipment spacing to enable social distancing, as well as robust equipment cleaning between uses.

“Two of the most effective ways of keeping people healthy are to wear masks and practice social distancing (at least six feet),” said Dr. Jon Pryor, president of Essentia Health’s East Market. “COVID-19 is more likely to be spread indoors, so we need to treat our fitness centers just like any other indoor facility.

“We encourage other gyms and fitness centers in our region to adopt similar masking policies and do their part to keep people, and our communities, healthy.”

Full-time masking also will be required at the fitness and wellness center at Essentia Health-Moose Lake.
