Midwives are nothing new to Essentia Health. In fact, the midwifery team at Essentia has well over 60 years of combined experience in providing care to women and babies.
Certified nurse midwives (CNM) are advanced practitioners with education and training in caring for women throughout their lives. Midwives are experts in women’s healthcare.
Certified Nurse Midwife, Mandi Swanson, explains, “when you partner with a midwife, you will enjoy a holistic approach to healthcare from a provider who takes time to answer your questions, listen to your concerns and provide health information and resources. Your midwife will empower you to make decisions about your health that are personal to you. They will help you learn about your own health and the health of your family.”
Midwives provide services for all women in all stages of life, from teenage years through menopause. Specifically, midwives provide general check-ups, screenings, vaccinations, well gynecological care, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. They provide family planning, pregnancy care, labor and delivery as well as postpartum care and newborn care. They prescribe medications including all forms of birth control and can order tests and procedures as needed.
Midwives work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare providers.
If your pregnancy or delivery becomes high risk, your midwife will coordinate your care with an obstetrician and work together to give you the care that’s right for you and your baby.
Essentia Health wants to give everyone the opportunity to learn more about midwifery and meet some of our midwives. Join us at the Meet the Midwives event on January 30, 2020 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Avalon Events Center in Fargo. Hosted by Cori Jensen, this fun, casual and informative gathering will feature midwives talking about that they do and why, along with answers to your questions and refreshments.
This event is free and open to the public. You can register to attend this event at Eventbrite. Search for Meet the Midwives and let us know you are coming!
