Essentia Health announces purchase of former Sears property

Essentia Health has purchased the former Sears store at the Miller Hill Mall in Duluth.

The acquisition will allow the Northland’s largest health care provider to offer a variety of services to its patients at a convenient location. Several options are being considered for developing this property.

Malls across America are redefining themselves as retailers close their stores. Essentia Health sees an opportunity to contribute to the redevelopment and vibrancy of the Duluth mall.

We are pleased to report that the membership of the Center for Personal Fitness has increased since we opened at the Miller Hill Mall last fall. The convenient location and free parking that the Miller Hill Mall provides is appreciated by our members and our patients receiving care at our Therapy and Performance Center.

We’re still working on plans for the Sears space, which need to be approved by the Essentia Health Board of Directors and a regional Board of Directors. Meanwhile, we are planning to move additional services into the open space on the second floor of the former Younkers store, including therapy services, occupational medicine and select retail services.

Look for more news and information on the transition of these services from Essentia’s downtown campus to the mall in the coming months.
