Beginning July 1 Virginia Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit to transition care to Virginia Care Center

Essentia Health will be transitioning care for those who have traditionally recuperated in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit of its Virginia hospital to its Virginia Care unit effective July 1. “By transitioning from an acute setting to a transitional setting, the criteria for referrals changes,” says Sam Stone, Essentia Health-Virginia Administrator. “We are pleased that we will be able to offer patients that had previously not met criteria for the inpatient rehab unit an option to receive care close to home right here in Virginia.”

Over time, the number of patients meeting criteria for the Inpatient Rehab Unit has decreased. The transition is designed to continue to provide the level of care that patients require while keeping health care costs down for patients.

The same high-quality rehabilitation services will still be available for patients at the Virginia Care Center. Meanwhile, therapy services at Essentia Health-Virginia will not change.
