Essentia Health has installed four new Mamava suites within Essentia Health facilities in Fargo; one of which is the first Mamava suite to be installed within a hospital in North Dakota. The Mamava suite gives moms a clean, dignified and private space for breastfeeding or using a breast pump.
One suite will be located at Essentia Health-Hospital and available for patients, families and staff; one will be located at Essentia Health-South University Clinic inside the North entrance to the clinic, also for patients, families and staff; and two will be used in employee only areas at service centers.
The money needed to purchase the four suites was raised through the Essentia Health employee giving program, PEERS. “Staff had identified the Mamava suites as being beneficial for our patients,” said Sue Omdalen, Essentia Health-Fargo Foundation development director. “After some research, we found that these suites would be perfect to support our baby-friendly hospital. “
The public is invited to see this exciting new amenity at Essentia Health firsthand on Thursday, August 29, 2019.
Created by Mamava, a company dedicated to transforming the culture of breastfeeding by making it easier for more women to achieve their breastfeeding goals, the Mamava suite is a self-contained, mobile pod with comfortable benches, a fold-down table, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump and a door that can be locked for privacy. The 4-foot by 8-foot pod is means for individual use, but can fit more than one person, as well as mothers with babies and older children in tow.
“We are thrilled to support breastfeeding mamas in North Dakota,” said Sascha Mayer, co-founder and CEO of Mamava. “We believe that all mamas deserve a clean, comfortable and dignified place to use a breast pump or breastfeed distraction free – anywhere, anytime. Mamava pods provide flexibility for facilities and easy access for moms.”
