Essentia Health Hosts Age with Knowledge Seminar Series

Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Foundation is hosting a seminar series on aging. As we and our loved ones begin to age, things can change – physically, mentally, emotionally. This seminar series will help participants understand options and learn about tools available to better prepare for the challenges of aging.

All seminars will be held at the Essentia Health EMS building located at 225 Park Street in Detroit Lakes. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. and the program follows from noon to 1:00 p.m.

The first seminar, “Break the Silence” will be Wednesday, July 17, and discuss elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation. This seminar will be presented by Sheriff Todd Glander, Becker County Police, Stacie Urbanick, Nursing Director for Senior and Assisted Living at Essentia Health and Cara Frank, President of Bell Bank-Detroit Lakes. Participants will learn how to recognize elder abuse and how to prevent you or a loved one from being a target.

The second seminar, “Different Strokes for Different Folks” will be on Wednesday, July 24 and focus on strokes. Kathy McEvoy, stroke program manager for Essentia Health-Fargo will discuss stroke risk factors, prevention, treatment options and recognizing the signs of a stroke.

The third seminar, “Annual Wellness Visits – Why Prevention Matters” will be on Wednesday, August 14 and discuss the Medicare annual wellness visit and what to expect. This seminar will be presented by Megan Larson and Caitlin Hanson, both family practice RNs with Essentia Health Family Practice in Detroit Lakes.
