Essentia Health-Fosston provides scarves for cardiac patients

The Cardiac Rehabilitation team at Essentia Health-Fosston has been providing handmade red scarves to women who experience heart disease. The HeartScarves program was developed in response to feelings of fear and isolation some women were experiencing as a result of their heart disease. These handmade gifts are brought to heart patients within hospitals and cardiac rehab units to offer support and comfort for women during their recovery and beyond.

Registered Nurse Kathryn Carver has been hand making many red scarves to share with patients and bring them joy and comfort. A printed gift card is attached to each scarf explaining the meaning of the program.

HeartScarves is a program of WomenHeart, the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease founded in 1999 by three women.
