Published on November 12, 2019
On Wednesday, Nov. 13, research staff from Essentia Health will be at the Superior Douglas County YMCA to conduct enrollment visits for the All of Us Research Program.
Essentia Health is an enrollment partner for the All of Us Research Program, under the National Institutes of Health. All of Us is a nationwide research initiative aimed at recruiting one million or more volunteer participants to share personal information that, collectively, will help speed up health research. The Superior YMCA is the first off-campus site for All of Us enrollment in the Twin Ports.
“The future of health begins with us,” said Chris Stenberg, CEO of the Superior Douglas County Family YMCA. “If we want better health care for all of us, medical research needs to include all of us. We hope people from all walks of life join us in strengthening our community by participating in this project and potentially leading to some major health breakthroughs.”
Enrollment in the All of Us Research Program is open to people age 18 and older living in the U.S. There is no cost to participate, and participants do not need to be patients of Essentia. At its heart, the work will help develop better ways to measure a person’s risk for disease. The program also could help identify which treatments work for different types of people.
Since launching enrollment in Duluth in January, the Essentia research team has completed over 750 enrollment visits for the All of Us Research Program. Nationally, over 250,000 volunteers have completed all steps to enroll.
Participants who join will be asked, via online questionnaires, to share information about their health, family, home and work. Data collected in-person by trained lab and research staff will include physical measurements such as blood pressure, height and weight, as well as blood and urine samples. Participants who complete the full enrollment visit also will receive a $25 gift card for their time.
Enrollment visits will be available at the Superior Douglas County YMCA (9 North 21st Street) on Nov. 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Future availability will be shared over time. For more information or to schedule a visit, go to EssentiaHealth.org/AllofUs, call (877) 340-8058 or email AllofUs@EssentiaHealth.org.
This work is supported by the All of Us Research Program, part of the National Institutes of Health, under award number 1OT2OD026550. All of Us and the All of Us logo are service marks of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
