Advance Care Planning class offered at Essentia Health-Graceville

Essentia Health is inviting members of the community to learn more about advance care planning and get assistance with advance care directives. This free class offers a way for participants to learn how to make their wishes known if they are unable to speak for themselves.

The class is being held on Tuesday, April 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Graceville Community Building, located at 415 Studdart Avenue in Graceville.

“Advance care planning is a process for making decisions now for future healthcare you may need when you are no longer able to convey your preferences. It involves having conversations with your family and your healthcare providers,” says Amanda Bruinsma, RN and Home Health supervisor.

Preparing an advance directive is for everyone, regardless of age. Ideally, you do this planning while you are healthy, have mental capacity and are not stressed about health concerns. Bruinsma goes on to say, “The conversation isn’t about dying…it’s about how you want to live until you die.”

A light lunch will be provided. You can learn more by calling 320-748-8211.
