Finding out you’re about to bring another life into this world can be an incredibly joyous and nerve-wracking experience. Between dozens of doctors’ appointments and your ever-changing body, trying to remember everything relating to your pregnancy can be hard. That’s why Essentia Health created the Essentia Oh Baby app available at no charge in the Google Play and iTunes store.
Essentia Oh Baby is the one app any expecting mother needs. It has an appointment scheduler, videos on what’s going on inside mom’s body and what women can expect during pregnancy, among many other features.
“Before the app, expecting moms had to page through books to find the information they needed to know,” says Women’s and Children’s Patient Education Program Manager Lindsay Bontjes from Essentia Health-Fargo. “In our digital world, it only makes sense we give moms all the info they need on their smart phones or tablets.”
All the information in the app is evidence-based and medically approved. No more wondering if what you read on the internet is true, simply look it up in the Essentia Oh Baby app. If you have any questions, phone numbers and contact information for your hospital or doctor are available in the app as well.
“Another feature moms are going to love is a list of approved over-the-counter medications during pregnancy,” says Bontjes. “If an expecting mom has a terrible headache or is a little congested, she no longer needs to wonder what she can take. We lay it all out there.”
After birth, the app can still be used to track immunizations and appointments for pediatric visits. It also has information on breastfeeding and mom support groups. Whether you’re visiting with the doctor at the clinic, or researching information on the app at home, Essentia Health Oh Baby is one more way we are here with you.
In 2016, The Birthplace at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth achieved recognition as a “Baby-Friendly” birthplace. Baby-Friendly® Designated Hospitals are recognized for being the gold standard concerning infant breastfeeding and bonding practices in birthing units.
Developed by the United Nations Children’s Fund and the World Health Organization, the Baby-Friendly designation recognizes hospitals that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies based on the “Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.”
