Stick It to the Flu!

Essentia Health Offers Walk-In Flu Shots

Influenza season is upon us and now is the time to protect yourself, your family and the community by getting vaccinated. The flu vaccine is recommended for people six months and older, including people with compromised immune systems and chronic medical conditions.

Essentia Health-Wahpeton Clinic will be offering walk-in flu vaccines every Tuesday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm beginning September 25 and continuing through October 30. Visit the clinic at 275 South 11th Street in Wahpeton.

“Getting a flu shot is one of the best ways to keep your family healthy and improve population health,” says Essentia Health Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Rajesh Prabhu. “The flu shot protects the most vulnerable in our community – elderly, young children and those with significant health conditions.”

It’s a concept called herd immunity, immunizing young and healthy segments of our communities to help prevent more vulnerable members from getting sick.

The flu vaccine is made from influenza strains identified to be the most likely to hit the Northern hemisphere, based on what medical experts have seen occur in the southern half of the world.

For more information, call the Essentia Health-Wahpeton Clinic at 701.642.2000. Remember to wear a short-sleeve shirt when you come in for your shot. Flu vaccinations are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance.
