Essentia Health-Fargo is excited to announce it is the first designated ‘Baby Friendly’ hospital in the region.
Baby-Friendly hospitals are the gold standard in breastfeeding and bonding practices between mother and child. This recognition was developed by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization.
“We are thrilled to be the first birthing center in the region to be designated as Baby-Friendly. We educate, build confidence, empower, and support our mothers on evidence based feeding practices and infant care. This honor is one way we continue to create a healthy difference in people’s lives,” says Essentia Health Women’s and Children’s Director Kecia Lund.
There are more than 20,000 designated Baby-Friendly hospitals and birth centers worldwide. Currently there are 512 active Baby-Friendly hospitals and birth centers in the United States. The “Baby-Friendly” designation is given after a rigorous on-site survey.
“By becoming a Baby-Friendly hospital, our patients are provided the excellent and comprehensive care they deserve during this unforgettable time in their life,” says Lindsay Bontjes, Children’s Patient Education Program Manager at Essentia Health-Fargo.
