Extraordinary Nurse Recognized at Essentia Health-Ada

Danielle Aldrich

Essentia Health-Ada has awarded the DAISY Award to Danielle Aldrich, registered nurse. Aldrich was nominated by a family member of a patient for which she provided care. In that nomination, Aldrich is described as patient, kind and calming as well as quick-acting and calm. Upon being transferred to another facility, doctor and nurses said there that the patient had received wonderful care and that the wound treatment was exactly what was needed. Aldrich’s nominator said, “We will forever be thankful for Danielle’s help and knowledge, along with the other care professionals that were there that day.”

Director of Nursing Kari Bergman, said, “We are pleased to be among the healthcare organizations participating in The DAISY Award program. Nurses are heroes every day. It’s important that our nurses know their work is highly valued, and The DAISY Foundation provides a way for us to do that.” “Danielle is very deserving of this award as we are grateful to have her as a part of our team here in Ada.”

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. Patrick died in 1999 at age 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.

Bonnie Barnes, president and co-founder of The Daisy Foundation says, “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human, extraordinary, compassionate work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Essentia Health are called on to do every day epitomized the purpose of The DAISY Award.”

Patients and staff can nominate nurses for The DAISY Award by filling out a nomination form found at the hospital.
