Published on August 27, 2018
Essentia Health Orthopedic Surgeon and Department Chair, Dr. Prasad Sawardeker, has been elected into the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), a society made up of leading national and international orthopedic surgeons who specialize in surgery of the shoulder and elbow. Sawardeker is the only shoulder and elbow surgeon in the state of North Dakota to be elected to this esteemed group.
Membership is selective and by invitation only. All members must be board certified, fellowship trained and a substantial portion of their practice must focus on shoulder and elbow surgery. Additional requirements include at least two peer-reviewed publications in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, book chapters on shoulder/elbow topics, recognition by peers as a regional expert in the field of shoulder and elbow surgery and two recommendations from existing members nominating you for membership. In addition to meeting the above criteria, Sawardeker is being recognized as an up and coming thought leader in the field of shoulder and elbow surgery and he has presented his research and clinical work at orthopedic surgery meetings domestically and international.
Sawardeker joined Essentia Health-Fargo in 2012. He earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, has a master’s in pharmacology and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the prestigious Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami.
Dr. Sawardeker is compassionate, affable and always available for his patients. One of his many goals in patient care is to help patients regain function so that they can return to leading healthy and active lifestyles, regardless of age. “It is a privilege and honor,” he says, adding, “to impact just one person’s life is immeasurable and the most satisfying part of my job.”
He specializes in cutting-edge, minimally invasive techniques and joint-replacing procedures for the shoulder, elbow and hand and is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon.
