Published on September 10, 2018
The Family Council at Essentia Health St. Mary’s-Detroit Lakes Oak Crossing is making life better for residents with their donation of an electric piano. The piano will be used in the Loafer’s Lounge for parties, programs and special events. The piano is on wheels so it can be transported to the four different neighborhoods as needed for events. The piano is a wonderful addition to Oak Crossing and something that will be enjoyed by residents for many years to come. The piano was purchased with funds raised at the annual Party in the Park event held each summer.
Jane Kozitka, Family Council member, took a moment to play a song on the new piano to share the beautiful tone it produces and relay how the weighted keys feel just like a regular piano.
The purpose of the Family Council is to comfort, inform and motivate friends and relatives of residents; improve the quality of life, well-being and happiness of all residents; provide input on nursing home decisions and act on shared concerns and problems; and promote positive attitudes toward aging and the role of nursing homes in long-term care.
The Oak Crossing Family Council is closely involved with the nursing home and in the last few years has donated new sound systems for each of the neighborhoods, a new computer system on wheels and money for neighborhoods to purchase seasonal decorations. They also put on a Valentine’s Day and Halloween party each year for the residents.
