Essentia Health offers free skin cancer screenings at SPOTme® event on “Melanoma Monday”

Essentia Health is offering free SPOTme ® skin cancer screenings from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 7, a day designated as “Melanoma Monday” by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). The screenings are one of the most successful ways to identify and treat skin cancer. Screenings will take at the Skin Renewal Center, located on the first floor of the Duluth Clinic Third Street Building, 400 E. Third Street, Duluth.

This is the third year Essentia Health has offered the free skin checks, and staff who have participated in the past are impressed by the results from previous events.

“This event truly does make a healthy difference in the lives of the patients we see,” says Deb Carl, who manages the Skin Renewal Center. “It increases awareness of the danger of skin cancer and the importance of getting a skin check, and it’s free of charge for those who cannot afford a regular dermatology appointment.”

During the SPOTme ®screenings, dermatology providers will perform a 10-minute skin check. If something is found during the exam, then participants can either go to their regular provider for a biopsy or other treatment, or be referred to Essentia’ dermatology department for care. Skin Renewal estheticians and laser technicians will also be on hand to answer any skincare and sun protection questions.

Skin cancer screenings are by appointment only so call (218) 786-3468 to schedule an appointment or for more information.
