Essentia Health offers evening hours to help students

Essentia Health is now making it easier than ever for students to get ready for school and sports by offering evening appointments and walk-in back-to-school and sports physicals.

“In an effort to offer a more convenient time for working families, we are excited to offer evening physicals,” says Dr. Jane Rudd, who sees patients at Essentia Health’s West Duluth Clinic. “A sports physical is one of the few times that many adolescents see a medical provider—it is an important visit that allows us to review their current health concerns.”

During the next few weeks, four Essentia clinics offering extended care from 5-8 p.m.:

  • Superior Clinic, 3500 Tower Ave., July 24
  • West Duluth Clinic, 4212 Grand Ave., July 31
  • Hermantown Clinic, 4855 W. Arrowhead Road., Aug. 7
  • Lakeside Clinic, 4621 E. Superior St., Aug. 9

Patients seeking evening walk-in physicals will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you’re on a tight summer schedule, it may be wise to make an appointment during the extended evening hours or during regular clinic hours by calling (218) 786-8777.

“Sports physicals allow us to not only assess physical measures, but also review personal and family risk factors in general and more specific to their sport,” adds Dr. Rudd.  “By doing this visit at an Essentia Health clinic, we are also able to review and update immunizations and manage any other health concerns.”

Essentia Health-International Falls and Essentia Health-Ely Clinics are also offering evening hours for physicals, by appointment only, in addition to their regular clinic hours:

  • International Falls, 2501 Keenan Drive, from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 31
    • To schedule an appointment, call (218)283-9431
  • Ely Clinic, 300 W. Conan St., from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 1
    • To schedule an appointment, call (218) 365-7900

Most physicals are covered by insurance, but it’s always a good idea to check with your provider.
