Essentia Health invites you to turn heart failure into a success story

If you, or a loved one, is living with heart failure, Essentia Health would like to help turn that heart failure into a successful, healthy lifestyle. The Essentia Health Heart Failure Patient Symposium will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at Northland Country Club, 3901 E. Superior St., Duluth.

The event will feature Cardiologist Dr. Kimberly Boddicker, who will focus on the truth about heart failure, its diagnosis and treatment. Breakout sessions will focus on how caregivers can handle emergency situations, as well as questions and answers from a patient perspective. A complimentary, heart-healthy lunch, featuring delicious, low-sodium food will be provided. Following lunch, a short presentation on mindfulness and heart failure will be presented.

Denise Buxbaum, a registered nurse who works with cardiac patients, says Essentia staff also learn a lot from patients who attend the event.

“Because our patients and their families are the ones living with heart failure, we gain an enormous amount of knowledge from them. We learn what their real struggles are, instead of what we think or assume they may be. By listening and learning from our patients and their families, we are better prepared to meet their needs,” Buxbaum says.

This symposium is free and open to patients with heart failure, their family, friends and caregivers. Attire is casual. Essentia Health staff will be on hand to meet patients and guests, answer questions and even hand out door prizes!
