Essentia Health invites you to Life After Stroke conference

Essentia Health invites you to the 2018 Life After Stroke conference from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Clyde Iron Works, 2920 W. Michigan St., Duluth. The gathering is for stroke survivors, their families, friends and the public to learn more about stroke recovery.

“The purpose of the conference is to provide a venue for persons who have sustained a stroke,” says Joan Jeanetta, who oversees rehabilitation services at Essentia Health. “This will be an opportunity for survivors of stroke, along with their families and care partners to participate in an afternoon of socialization and education related to life after experiencing a stroke.”

The keynote speaker is Dr. Vikram Jadhav, an Essentia Health stroke neurologist. “The focus of the presentation will be on unique challenges faced by patients and their caregivers after stroke,” says Dr. Jadhav. His talk will include recent advances in acute stroke treatments before transitioning into life after stroke. The presentation will be interspersed with stories and anecdotes from patients’ lives. “We hope the take home message will be ‘You are not alone in this fight against stroke and together we can conquer stroke,’” he adds.

Stroke survivors and their families will also share their experiences. The day includes adaptive yoga and representatives from the Minnesota Stroke Association.
