Essentia Health employee receives national award of recognition

Essentia Health Clinical Documentation (CDI) Manager Tracy Boldt has been honored with a national award of Recognition of Professional Achievement from the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS).

Tracy Boldt (center) received a national award at the ACDIS Conference in San Antonio last week. She is pictured with Dr. Robert Erickson, (left) Essentia Health Physician Adviser, and the ACDIS Director Brian Murphy.

“Tracy goes above and beyond to make a substantial difference in the field of CDI and here with staff who are devoted to her and highly engaged in making a difference in the documentation and health care delivery at Essentia Health,” says Faye Bakke, who is the Clinical Documentation Improvement supervisor in Essentia’s Revenue Services, who nominated Boldt.

Clinical documentation specialists ensure accuracy and quality among medical coders, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff. They maintain charts, medical records, and reports and solve any issues involving documentation.

“When a patient is seen by the practitioner, the documentation should reflect the work done.  Unfortunately, codes do not always fit what the practitioner is monitoring, assessing, evaluating or treating, and that’s where clinical documentation specialists come in,” Boldt says.

Boldt joined Essentia in September 2016, tasked with creating a single, cohesive inpatient CDI Department from what had been three separate markets. Today, she leads a team that has been transformed. She builds trust among team members through her open, transparent management style and by encouraging the professional growth and development of each staff member. Essentia recently began offering clinical documentation services to outpatient sites in 2017.

"I'm very honored to accept this award on behalf of Essentia Health and ACDIS," Boldt says. "Over the past 1 1/2 years with Essentia, I've enjoyed bringing outside experience inside to elevate the CDI program. I couldn't be prouder of this team as we work each day to reach out and help Essentia practitioners with their documentation. As a fun fact, my first nursing position was with Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes. I enjoyed working with Essentia then and continue to love my job today."

ACDIS is a community of CDI professionals who share tested tips, tools and strategies to implement successful CDI programs. Its mission is to bring CDI specialists together for improvement.
