Essentia Health-Deer River to hold mass casualty training exercise

Staff at Essentia Health-Deer River Hospital and Clinic will hold a mass casualty training exercise from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, May 9, at the hospital, located at 115 10th Ave. NE.  The purpose of the exercise is to make sure staff is prepared in the case of a real emergency.

“Essentia Health-Deer River continues to improve safety, security, and ourselves in the event of a disaster, threat or inclement weather,” says Rob Devin, EMS supervisor, who is coordinating the drill.

The exercise will also involve the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, the Deer River Police Department, the Deer River Fire Department, Itasca County Emergency Management, public health experts, the Cohasset Fire Department, Meds 1 Ambulance, Essentia Health EMS and staff.

Both the hospital and clinic will remain open during the drill to care for patients.
