Essentia Health-Deer River, 115 N. 10th Avenue NE, has achieved Level IV trauma re-designation from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). Minnesota's trauma system network identifies hospitals that are organized and coordinated to optimize care provided to seriously injured people.
“Our designation demonstrates that our medical and nursing staff are trauma trained,” says Ashlee Snyder, acute care supervisor at Deer River. “We have processes in place to rapidly assess, stabilize and transfer trauma patients to the appropriate level of care.”
On average, trauma claims the lives of 2,400 Minnesotans annually. States with trauma systems have seen survival rates increase by 15 to 20 percent. For a seriously injured person, the time between sustaining an injury and receiving care can be a critical determinant of survival.
“Our trauma program leadership and medical staff have worked together to develop our case review process, identify areas for improvement and implement changes to improve patient care. We’re proud to offer this expert level of trauma care to the Deer River area community,” Snyder adds.
