Advance Care Planning classes offered at Essentia Health-West Duluth Clinic

Essentia Health is offering an advance care planning class from 2-3 p.m. Jan. 16 at Essentia Health-West Duluth Clinic, 4212 Grand Ave., Duluth.  The free class is a way to learn how to make your wishes known if you were unable to speak for yourself.

“Classes have been very well-received by patients and those from the community that have attended,” says Wanda Paulsen, who manages the advance care planning program.  “These classes are open to the public and we encourage people to attend to learn how to have meaningful conversations with their family and friends.”

At the classes, attendees will learn vocabulary to use when conveying wishes, have time to reflect on values important to them, explore goals for treatment and take steps toward completing a health care directive, as well as choosing a health care agent.

If you are unable to attend January’s class, more will be offered in February in Hermantown, Virginia and Superior, along with another class in West Duluth scheduled for March.

Registration is not required to attend, but if you would like to learn more about the class, please contact Wanda at (218) 786-1310.
