Essentia Health Purchases New Fridge to Help CHUM

Essentia Health has purchased a new refrigerator to help clients served at CHUM in Duluth.  The commercial-grade appliance will allow the food bank to display fresh dairy, meat and produce items for clients shopping at the downtown CHUM food shelf, located at 120 North First Avenue West in Duluth.

"It is so bright and shiny---after the drab of years at the food shelf, this new piece of equipment really has brightened the atmosphere for staff and volunteers---in fact, word has gotten out across the city that we have a new toy," says Scott Van Daele, CHUM' director of distributive services.  "Saying thank you a million times will never begin to scratch the surface of how grateful l I am for making this happen."

The donation is driven in part by a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) that showed many lower income residents do not have access to healthy and fresh food.

"As Essentia works to address the priority areas from the Community Health Needs Assessment, partnering with our community partners, such as CHUM, is truly one of the most impactful ways we can make a healthy difference," says Kayla Keigley, CHNA program manager.  "Making our community healthier requires all of us rolling up our sleeves and working together and recognizing our strengths. We are so happy to be able to provide CHUM with this new resource to increase access to healthy foods in our community."
