Essentia Health notified of MNA’s intent to hold informational picket in Duluth

The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) has informed Essentia Health of its intent to conduct an informational picket from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21.

The informational picket will include leafleting and bannering and will occur at St. Mary’s Medical Center, 407 E. Third St. in Duluth. Please note, however, that this is not a strike. Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center is open as usual and ready to provide expert, compassionate care. Measures are in place to ensure that our patients, hospital staff and others will have access to our facilities during the picketing.

Essentia Health and MNA nurses are negotiating a labor agreement; seven bargaining sessions have taken place since April. Essentia will continue to negotiate in good faith and we look forward to reaching a mutually beneficial agreement. These nurses are valued members of our care teams and we respect their right to conduct informational picketing as part of a labor union.

Essentia Health has a long history of reaching mutually acceptable agreements, and we are confident in achieving a similar outcome here. In the past five years, we have successfully negotiated more than 60 agreements with eight different unions representing 44 bargaining units across our facilities — all while avoiding a work stoppage.

Essentia’s top priority in everything we do is to improve the safety and well-being of the patients and communities we’re privileged to serve.
