Essentia Health notified of MNA’s intent to hold informational picket in Moose Lake

The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) has informed Essentia Health-Moose Lake of its intent to conduct an informational picket from noon to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28.

The informational picket will occur on public property on County Road 61 between South Kenwood Avenue and Kasper Road and on the northwest corner of County Road 61 and Industrial Park Road. Please note, however, that this is not a strike. Essentia Health-Moose Lake is open as usual and ready to provide expert, compassionate care. Measures are in place to ensure that our patients, staff and others will have access to our facilities during the picketing.

Essentia Health and MNA nurses are negotiating a labor agreement. While no MNA contract was in place when Essentia took over the former Mercy Hospital in 2020, bargaining sessions have been held and remain scheduled. These nurses are valued members of our care teams and we respect their right to conduct informational picketing as part of a labor union.

Essentia Health has a long history of reaching mutually acceptable agreements, and we are confident in achieving a similar outcome here. In the past five years, we have successfully negotiated more than 60 agreements with eight different unions representing 44 bargaining units across our facilities — all while avoiding a work stoppage.

Essentia’s top priority in everything we do is to improve the safety and well-being of the patients and communities we’re privileged to serve.
